Membership Benefits

Membership at Harbor Yacht Clubs entitles you to discounted rates on all of our sailboat rentals in both San Diego and Long Beach as well as our US SAILING classes in both locations. Two membership program options are currently offered that you may choose from when you enroll in the club. Membership is valuable to sailors of all levels of experience, and our programs are designed for both local and out of town sailors. Your membership comes at a low cost so that you can gain all of the benefits of sailing without the hassle and expense of boat ownership. HYC members take advantage of all of the following:

Free US SAILING Basic Keelboat with Enrollment
Upon joining, you will receive a complimentary US SAILING Basic Keelboat group class for one person. Already know how to sail? Receive a $190 credit towards one sailing class of your choice.

Sailing in 2 Southern California Locations
Whether you want to sail in San Diego out of Harbor Island Yacht Club or in Long Beach and Catalina Island out of Harborlight Yacht Club, as a member you may rent boats from either location.

Now is the best time to join as we have just added a huge seleciton of brand new 2007 and 2008 model yachts from Beneteau, Hunter, and Lagoon. We also have the largest and newest selection of Catalina Yachts available. Our large, customized selection of new, clean sailboats makes your sailing experience the very best one available in Southern California - you'll never have a problem reserving the boat of your choice.

Affordable, Leisurely Sailing
When you take out any of our sailboats in San Diego or Long Beach, we never require you to clean, pump out, or re-fuel the boat upon returning. No additional cleaning or pump out fees are added onto your charter rate. Simply take your trash and belongings with you, and we take care of the rest! Our friendly and experienced staff ensures that your sailing experience with us is always the most relaxing and enjoyable one possible.

Find Sailing Partners
Our "Members Only" portion of our website allows you to specify your experience level, availability, and boat preference in order to connect you with other sailors that are looking for those criteria. You can search for sailing partners that have criteria you are looking for as well, so you can meet fellow members, gain experience on the water, and share sailing costs.

Membership Fees

Enrollment:
You and your household members can become members of HYC for a one-time enrollment fee of $399. Membership is on a month-to-month basis, and there is no annual committment. Membership includes the US SAILING Basic Keelboat group class for one person.

Membership Program Choices:
To ensure that you will get the most out of your club membership, we currently offer 2 membership program options that you may choose from designed to suit your sailing preferences:

OPTION 1: Monthly Minimum Program

This membership program is designed for the sailor who plans on sailing every month. With this program, we collect $45 on the first of the month, all of which may be applied towards the cost of a boat rentals in San Diego or Long Beach during that month. The $45 does not roll over to the next month.

OPTION 2: Sailing Bank Accrual Program

This membership program is designed for sailors who may not be able to rent a boat every month. With this program, we collect $45 each month - $20 in dues and $25 of which may be applied towards rentals in San Diego or Long Beach. If you don't use that $25 credit towards a sail with us that month, that money will roll over to the next month, accumulating in your sailing bank until you use it. We limit the sailing bank accumulation to a maximum of $300, which is a year's worth of credits. So, as long as you go sailing at least once a year, you'll never miss out on any of your monthly sailing bank contributions.

Change Your Mind?
If you are enrolled in the club with either Option 1 or 2 and later decide to change programs, you may do so one time by notifying the club in writing.

Referral Program

Receive addtional sailing bank credits when you refer your friends and family to our sailing club. When they sign up for membership, if they give us your name as a referral, we'll give you a $50 credit to use towards sailing as a thank you for spreading the word about this great opportunity.

Club Activities

Tuesday Night Racing Series
Meet other members and enjoy the excitement of sailboat racing during one of our Tuesday evening Capri 22 races during daylight savings. Sailboat racing is more fun in evenly matched boats. We race “one-design” in the club’s fleet of Capri 22’s. Many members bring their own crews, racing as a team week after week. Others prefer signing up as individuals and crews are formed at the club on race day. Whether you’re an experienced skipper or “learning the ropes” as a crew you’ll enjoy the camaraderie and good fellowship of racing.

Club Regattas
Participate in one of our semi-annual member regattas - a great introduction to sailboat racing! Meet other members, enjoy food and drinks on board, and participate in an exciting sailboat race! Each boat has a USCG licensed captain on board (unless you'd like to skipper your own boat), so you may participate as much or as little as you wish. Prizes are given to the winning team!
